The Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, authorized Ordered Departure and Directed Early Return of all DoD dependents stationed in Turkey, effective Mar. 29. The Ordered Departure and Directed ERD is applicable to dependents of all DoD service members and civilian employees not serving under Chief of Mission authority whose sponsors are assigned to Izmir, Mugla, Marmaris, Adana, and Incirlik Air Base. This will facilitate the safe departure of family members from Turkey due to growing security concerns in the region. The safety and security of military families is our top priority. U.S. European Command intends to mitigate the risk to DoD elements and personnel, including family members, within the authorities and means of the command, while ensuring the combat effectiveness of U.S. forces and our mission support to operations in Turkey.
