KAISERSLAUTERN MILITARY COMMUNITY CENTER

The Kaiserslautern Military Community Center is a significant quality of life improvement for the Kaiserslautern Military Community and transiting personnel with lodging, dining, shopping and entertainment all under one roof. Conveniently located across from the Air Mobility Command Passenger Terminal, it offers American-style and local cuisine and a variety of services and products to satisfy the entire Kaiserslautern Military Community, transient guests and visitors.

The KMCC is designed to provide a one-stop shopping center for travelers and those stationed in the KMC. The consolidated facility is approximately 844,000 square feet (78,000 square meters) and includes an eight-story, 350-room visiting quarters facility.

This is the first time that the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and Air Force Services have collocated major business operations. Other AAFES facilities included are a four-plex movie theater, Power Zone, Outdoor Living, Toyland/Four Seasons, food court, new car sales and other vendors in an American-style mall layout. The AAFES shopping center features some concessionaires available for the first time on Air Force installations--stateside and overseas -- as well as a large variety of specialty stores from the local community and the U.S. The south end of the facility includes a spacious Outdoor Recreation facility complete with a two-story climbing wall, the Ramstein Tickets and Tours office, Romano's Macaroni Grill restaurant and a Sports Lounge offering local cuisine.

AAFES and Services are committed to working with local agencies for representation in the KMCC. While it offers many American conveniences for the KMC, it also provides information about unique products, services and events offered in off-base communities, further strengthening the longstanding German-American friendship in the region.

The project totals approximately $170 million for construction and is currently the largest single facility construction project in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Department of Defense. Construction began with preliminary site clearing in November 2003 and a groundbreaking in the summer 2004. The Services features opened on July 2, 2009 along with the AAFES Shoppette, bakery, car rental and new car sales. The Vendor mall and food court followed with an opening date of  Aug. 15, 2009. The AAFES main store opened  Sept. 21, 2009.
