Lajes transient alert propels mission forward
U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 65th Air Base Squadron transient alert section work with pilots assigned to the 55th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron to secure the launch of six F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft assigned to Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, during a coronet mission through Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal, April 27, 2022. As one of the 86th Airlift Wing’s geographically separated units from Ramstein Air Base, Germany, the 65th Air Base Group is strategically located to play a vital role in combat operations by serving as a trans-Atlantic bridge for the Department of Defense, allied nations and other authorized aircraft.
