86 AW leadership tours Lajes operations
U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark R. August, 86th Airlift Wing commander, collects liquid oxygen from a storage and transfer tank at a cryogenic facility, Lajes Field, Portugal, Jan. 21, 2020. The cryogenic capability is a unique operation, as it supplies breathing oxygen for pilots and crews without expensive outsourcing. In the last year, Lajes filled 76 storage and transfer tanks with over 3,100 gallons of liquid oxygen to support aircraft crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
