NATO Remembers 9/11

The US flag flew at half staff today at the Allied Air Component Headquarters Ramstein Air Base Germany in remembrance of September 11th 2009. The flag along with the flags of the 27 other nations of the NATO Alliance were flown in observance of the eight year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York City, the Pentagon and Somerset County, PA. Although the attacks occurred on American soil, the impact was felt by the Alliance as a whole and the 28-nation's solidarity was demonstrated by NATO's first ever enactment of Article 5. Article 5 states that if a NATO Ally is attacked, the Alliance considers the attack as one against all members, and will take necessary actions to assist the Ally attacked.
