Aeromedical acupuncture
Retired Col. Dr. Richard Niemtzow, U.S. Air Force Surgeon General chief acupuncture consultant, removes acupuncture needles from a U.S. Army soldier’s ears aboard an aeromedical evacuation flight from Ramstein Air Base, Germany to Joint Base Andrews, Md. as part of a research study, Jan.14, 2011. The study aims to determine if acupuncture to the ear is an effective alternative treatment for pain reduction among wounded servicemembers. A film crew accompanied Dr. Niemtzow to produce a documentary on health care and alternative medicine. (U.S. Air Force photo by 2nd Lt. Christopher Diaz)
