Movin' on up
RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- Blank parcel pick-up notice forms at Northside Postal Annex lie in the midst of workers removing mailboxes and light fixtures for relocation to the old Base Exchange here, June 30, 2011. The post office moved its operating location due to safety concerns with the roof of the building. Within 24 hours, post office personnel along with more than 100 volunteers relocated 10,000 mailboxes and 2,000 packages to their new location. The post office personnel maintained full operations at both locations during the move to minimize any customer inconvenience. The Northside Post Annex averages 3,000 to 5,000 customer parcel pick-ups per week and 13 million pounds of mail and packages per year. The cost for the move, repairs and the move back totals to approximately $4.5 million. Authorized parking for the temporary post office is located at the Northside Chapel parking lot.
