1947-era Airman returns to Ramstein after 54 years

U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. (Retired) Kenneth Andrews draws a visual aid for several Airmen at Ramstein’s Air Traffic Control tower of how pilots in the 1950s and 1960s would communicate with multiple air traffic control towers to help find their way home if lost, May 24, 2016, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Chief Master Sgt. (Retired) Kenneth Andrews, his grandson, Lt. Col. Michael Andrews, and his son, Master Sgt. (Retired) Ken Andrews, pose for a photo during the commissioning ceremony of his grandson. Chief Andrews served from 1947-1977 as an Air Traffic Controller and served at Ramstein Air Base from 1959-1962. He recently returned to Europe and took the opportunity to visit his old “office” – Ramstein’s Air Traffic Control tower.
