SPORTS: KING COMM takes first again Published Nov. 22, 2010 By Joyce Costello USAG Livorno Public Affairs CAMP DARBY, Italy -- For the second year in a row the 86th Communication Squadron from Ramstein, Germany has won the title of U.S. AIr Forces in Europe Flag Football champions. In what looked almost like last year's lineup and scores, Kingcomm beat out nine other teams to go up against 52nd Logistics Readiness Squadron out of Spangdahlem, Germany, in the finals. "Our defense is one of a kind and only allowed one or two touchdowns per game which I feel is very impressive in holding the line" said Staff Sgt. Randy McGinnis, Ramstein's Team Captain. "We have outstanding athletes that are willing to come day in and day out to practice blocking and catching; plus we have a very supportive commander, teammates and fans." Team captain for LRS, Airman 1st Class Sean Conaway, 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron, said that his team played great at their individual positions and that the finals were two great teams playing a great game even though the final score was 21-6. Third place team captain, Camp Darby's Staff Sgt. Rick Sepulveda, 731st Munitions Squadron, said they had LRS by one point (21-20) with two minutes left to go in the game that would determine who advanced to compete for first place, but that in the last 20 seconds LRS scored. "We forgot about the lose and focused on winning third place 33-6 against the 31st Maintenance Squadron out of Aviano, Italy," said Sepulveda. USAFE Sports Director, Thomas Burkett, added the teams didn't let the mud or rainy weather stop them from coming down and giving it their best. "I was especially impressed with the support by some of the team's commanders who really stood behind the program and got heavily involved in the success of their teams- a good command makes a huge difference," said Burkett. Burkett adds that while he is retiring, that he knows the great USAFE flag football tournaments will continue.
