Landstuhl hosts biker day May 29 Published May 20, 2011 By Petra Lessoing 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- The Westpfalz Biker Group will sponsor its fourth annual Westpfalz Biker Day 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 29 all around Landstuhl's community hall, Stadthalle. Under the auspices of Deputy County Commissioner Gerhad Müller and Landstuhl Deputy Mayer Dr. Peter Degenhardt, the event features motorcycle displays, bikers' outfits, emergency response demonstrations, safety information by different agencies, children's activities, music, the possibility to take part in a motorcycle ride, a raffle and eating and drinking. "We again will turn this biker day into a fundraiser to support the Kaiserslautern Children's Accident Committee and the House of Youth in Landstuhl," said Friedrich Müller from the organization team. Organizers put the focus of their charity event on the safety of motorcycle driving. Therefore they have a close cooperation with the Westpfalz Police Headquarters, the Children's Accident Committee, the German Red Cross, the technical inspection agency and the Federation against Alcohol and Drugs. The German Red Cross will demonstrate first aid and other immediate emergency response measures that should be performed at the site of a motorcycle accident. Members of the AMC trial group from Kerzenheim will present their motorbiking skills. The U.S. military police will have two of their vehicles on display. Children can take a ride in a police motorcycle merry-go-round and watch an artist to create funny figures with balloons. "At 12:30 p.m., motorbikers can take part in a 60-kilometer trip through the winding roads of the Sickinger Höhe," said Mr. Müller. Participants will be able to win prizes such as a safety training class, VIP tickets for the German Motorbike Championship, motorcycle accessories and more. This year there won't be a traditional raffle, but organizers will give prizes to the oldest and youngest participant, to the one having the longest trip over to Landstuhl, and others. All day long the Kaiserslautern radio station Antenne 96.9 will provide musical entertainment and information, in German and English. Members of the Hochspeyer German Red Cross food service department will take care of hungry and thirsty visitors. "We hope a lot of visitors will join us on biker day to learn about motorcycles and safety, and even ride with us," said Mr. Müller. "Each visitor will help to support the recipients of our donations."
