A salute to KMC volunteers

We are extremely fortunate to have so many volunteers doing the "heavy lifting" across our Kaiserslautern Military Community. Recently, I coined one of our superstar volunteers, Mr. Steve Frisch, who donates hundreds of hours a year and impacts thousands of people. There are many more just like Steve out there who deserve our thanks.

Every day, the KMC benefits from hundreds of volunteer scout masters, sports coaches and DoDDs school helpers. Superstars across the KMC support clothing drives, serve as chapel staff, work at our USO sites and support dozens of other volunteer opportunities that make our lives richer and our community a better place to live.

In our military work centers, volunteers make our biggest events possible. Without volunteers, we couldn't have annual awards banquets, quarterly promotion ceremonies or large-scale events like our Air Force ball each fall. Last week, our very own U.S. Air Forces in Europe commander, Gen. Roger Brady, and USAFE command chief Pamela Derrow hosted a fantastic celebration called the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year banquet. Dozens of volunteers across the command helped make this event a night to remember for all the USAFE nominees and their families. Well done!

We are truly blessed for all the great volunteers we have across the KMC. Like Steve Frisch, volunteers quietly yet positively impact our lives every day. If you would like to learn more about volunteering, contact your supervisor or unit first sergeant. For volunteer opportunities throughout the KMC, please contact the Ramstein Airman and Family Readiness Center (06371.47.5100; DSN 480-5100) or Army Community Service at Pulaski Barracks (0631.3406.4232; DSN 493-4232). And for volunteer opportunities within our host nation community, contact the German American Community Office (0631.363.3010, or email: info@gaco-kl.de).

As always, thanks to you and your families for volunteering, and for serving our great nation.
