Airmen from around the Kaiserslautern Military Community came together to create a Halloween trunk-or-treat experience for families that may miss out on the holiday otherwise, here, Oct. 31, 2016.

A total of 59 parking spots around Donnelly Park were filled with decorated trunks where KMC volunteers handed out treats to the costumed families who visited.

“We wanted to make sure the families that live off base in the German communities still had the chance to celebrate this holiday,” said Katherine Reynolds, 86th Force Support Squadron youth program specialist.

Some volunteers also handed out other items and snacks for the kids with dietary restrictions.

“A few trunks handed out toys instead of candy,” said Reynolds. “There was also a healthy snack station that served pretzels and fruit for the kids who have allergies or may not be able to eat candy.”

At the end of the street, after visiting all 59 trunks, kids and their families had the opportunity to experience a haunted trail and have a good scare.

“The haunted forest trail was put on by other volunteers,” said Reynolds. “Families were guided through the trail while volunteers narrated a story.”

After finishing the haunted trail, families were able to continue the Halloween fun by trick-or-treating door to door until every participating house was visited.

“It was an incredible experience to be able to dress up and decorate our trunks for others in our community,” said Airman 1st Class Latonya Williams, 86th Airlift Wing broadcaster. “I was glad to see so many smiling faces and creative costumes.”
