There are many advantages to being a military member. Though we are asked to leave friends and family on a regular basis, the Air Force provides many avenues to ensure our Airmen are taken care of.

One such avenue is providing meals at little to no cost for more than 700 Ramstein members daily at the Rhineland Inn Dining Facility, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

"Without proper nourishment you cannot be physically fit and therefore not prepared to execute your mission effectively," said Tech. Sgt. Mbalia Forde, 786th Force Support Squadron food service training manager.

Staying fit to fight requires optimum nutrition. Members offer food comprising of three categories, green, yellow and red. Greens are encouraged, reds are offered for occasional consumption and yellows are the nutritional "grey area".

"The staff really cares about what we are doing," said Airman 1st Class Aaliyah Edwards, 786th FSS food services technician. "We provide the best we possibly can. That is this dining facility's best feature."

Attention to detail can be realized in every career field. Technicians can be found ensuring the food looks as appetizing as it may taste.

"I really love cooking," said Forde. "It is really important to me that the serving line display is attractive, palatable and our customers feel like we actually care about what they're eating. That is the most rewarding part of being in food service."

Forde's passion for cooking is well received by many of the Airmen who frequent the DFAC. According to Senior Airman William Mansfield, 86th Vehicle Readiness Squadron vehicle maintenance vehicular mechanic, the service provided by the Airmen of the DFAC is nothing short of excellent.

"When I lived in the dorms the DFAC made it so that I had one less thing to worry about," said Mansfield. "I would go eat there three times a day because it tastes good and the service is great."
