The housing satellite office on Ramstein will be closed and relocated to Volgelweh Military Family Housing April 15 to better suit the needs of service members.

The satellite office was originally established as a temporary operating facility in 2006 which grew into a full housing operation in 2009, but never gained enough manpower to support the location.

"We just don't have enough people or available resources to maintain the facility," said Debbie Perez, 86th Civil Engineering Squadron housing flight chief. "Without the right manpower, we can no longer run that operation so we scaled back from Ramstein and built-up Volgelweh."

According to housing flight members, the closure allows for a smoother process.

"With Volgelweh being the main way point for housing information, moving the Ramstein facility allowed information to flow better," said Donna Saldana, 86th CES assistance chief. "It will be an inconvenience, but our services are for everybody and we have to allocate our resources accordingly."

The satellite office became incapable of providing service members and civilians with adequate assistance at the Ramstein location due to personnel cuts.

"With the few people we had on Ramstein we couldn't provide quality customer service and that's not good for anyone," said Perez. "Bringing everything to one place was in the best interest of the staff and customers."

The Housing Office on Vogelweh will continue to provide members with affordable and adequate housing, referral and relocation services.
