With the everyday work load of military life, de-stressing is an important part of a service member's career. The 86th Force Support Squadron Outdoor Recreation, located inside the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center here, makes it easy for military members to enjoy their off-duty time in a fun, adventurous way.

Outdoor recreation provides members of the Kaiserslautern Military Community the opportunity to travel around Europe, revel in fitness-related activities and rent out equipment for their own personal endeavors.

"We strives to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles by providing the highest quality gear, facilities and customer-driven programs," said Sarah Mueller, 86th FSS Outdoor Recreation director.

Outdoor recreation consists of three facilities: the retail store, (along with a climbing wall) is located in the KMCC, The Aquatics Center is located on Ramstein, and the Rod and Gun Club is located on Vogelweh.

"I think it's good for service members to keep fit and active," said Cory Mathisen, 86th FSS Outdoor Recreation assistant. "Something like this on any military installation is positive and helps with the daily struggles of a job."

A variety of classes are offered at all three facilities for anyone to get active, relieve stress and have fun. Some classes offered are rock-climbing, paddle-boarding, canoeing, kayaking as well as many more.

"We have a variety of classes and we really try to spark someone's interest and encourage them to try something new," said Mueller.

Outdoor rec also offers a ski and bike shop for customers who are trying to be active any season as well as equipment suited for year round activities.
