USAFE Airman earns AF medical award

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany --  The Air Force recently named a Ramstein Airman as one of its best medical service members in 2014.

Tech. Sgt. Jessica Green, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa surgeon general resource adviser, was awarded the Outstanding Enlisted Health Services Management Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for 2014 for excelling in her major command and local community.

"It's a complete shock, because there are so many outstanding resource advisers here," Green said. "To be recognized for what you do is an amazing feeling. I know I don't represent myself; I represent (resource managers) as a whole."

Green's job is to take care of nearly 34,000 military and civilian Airmen by ensuring there is no lapse in care by managing the money for medical services in Europe and Africa. She sees the money is sent to the right locations and is distributed to medical facilities that need it.

"If I don't do my job, then medical services won't be there for military members or dependents," Green said. "Knowing that I have a direct impact on patients' care makes me feel really good."

She conducted congressionally mandated audits that came back with zero discrepancies. She also recouped $400,000 and reallocated $300,000 back into USAFE-AFAFRICA from $7 million worth of contracts.

"The level of genuine dedication to her duties and fellow Airmen goes beyond words," said Master Sgt. Frederik White, USAFE-AFAFRICA surgeon general medical resources and support branch NCO in charge. "She truly epitomizes the whole Airman concept. She is well deserving of the award; it feels great to see this NCO recognized for all that she does every day."

She is happy with the work she does during the duty day, but Green said she is also proud of developing future leaders as a work of duty and volunteering.

As the KMC 5/6 president, Green raised more than $90,000 for seven organizations and four wounded warrior programs. She also helped
develop future leaders with leadership management courses and co-chaired the Total Force Development Council, a body of Airmen dedicated to improving KMC service members.

"When I am able to do work and volunteer with the (KMC), it's always rewarding," Green said. "Being able to have an impact makes me proud."

Green said she is thankful for the support she gets from her friends, co-workers and family in helping her receive the award, but she said she also knows she must lead by example and continue striving for perfection.
