The Kisling NCO Academy hosted a Chief of Staff of the Air Force Reading List professional development seminar Oct. 8, at Kapaun Air Station, Germany.

The CSAF Reading List PDS provides Airmen the opportunity to discuss and learn about the common themes presented in the 12 books from the CSAF's 2015 reading list and understand how they can relate to being an airman in today's Air Force.

"I was excited to come to this event because I knew it would help me grow," said Senior Airman Justin Sprengel, 786th Civil Engineer Squadron customer service technician. "It's good to know things from a broader scope than just your job."

Created in 1996 by former Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Ronald Fogleman, the CSAF Professional Reading List program aims at developing a common frame of reference among Air Force members that promotes air and space power.

For the past eight years, the CSAFs and the chief master sergeants of the Air Force have created a comprehensive reading list that emphasizes a common theme.

Prior to choosing books for the current reading list, CSAF reached out to Airmen for their recommendations. He received more than 1,700 responses during the 10-day window recommendations were accepted.

"Every single one of the books chosen relates to our profession and our core values," said Tech. Sgt. Ashley Haldeman, Kisling NCOA instructor.

The event, attended by 40 Airmen ranging from airman basic to technical sergeant, consisted of group discussions, critiques and film observation. Topics of discussion included leadership, communication and generational differences.

"I want to learn how to get better," said Tech Sgt. Tania Gonzalez, 1st Combat Communications Squadron communications security NCO in charge. "The Air Force is constantly changing, and I have to change with it."

The Kisling NCOA plans to make the CSAF Reading List PDS an annual event.
