The Air Force chief of safety, Maj. Gen. Andrew Mueller, visited safety representatives and recognized their efforts at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, March 9, 2016.

Gen. Mueller visited to check on how the 86th Airlift Wing's Airmen maintain safety throughout the mission.

One of the most important aspects of upholding safety across Ramstein is the unit safety representatives, who serve as a liaison to 86th AW safety. Gen. Mueller highlighted their importance to the mission.

""It is important to recognize our unit safety representatives and the importance they have in maintaining the combat readiness in their units," said Gen. Mueller. "[They] serve the commander to ensure that our Airmen are equipped with the necessary information and skills needed to accomplish their duties in a safe work environment and to foster safety habits that unit personnel can employ while off duty."

One of the Airmen he visited was ZB-5 Marina Mueller, 86th Security Forces Squadron administrative assistant. Mueller was identified as one of the most productive safety representatives on Ramstein and was given a challenge coin for her hard work. She is the safety representative for approximately 553 Airmen.

According to Mueller, it was an exhilarating experience.

"It was great and I was just so surprised," said Mueller. "It's not always easy being the safety representative in a large squadron like the 86th SFS. It's even a bigger deal to me that I received a coin in my own office from a two-star general."

Gen. Mueller was impressed with Ramstein's safety representatives throughout Ramstein and said he is proud to be serving with these Airmen at Ramstein.
