Two Airmen from the 1st Engineering Installation Squadron recently launched a first for Ramstein Air Base.

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Kaden Norwood and U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Tyler Dunn started the Ramstein Bar Benders, the official powerlifting team of Ramstein AB.

“Our primary goal is to cultivate a passionate community for the sport of powerlifting at Ramstein,” said Norwood, 1 EIS communications installation and restoral supervisor. “We aim to develop athletes to represent the installation in competitions against other U.S. Air Force bases and in civilian powerlifting federations.”

The Bar Benders is open to all members of the Ramstein community who would like to work out and contribute to the team’s growth.

“The Bar Benders provides a supportive culture that champions both fitness and personal development,” said Dunn, 1 EIS communication installation and restoral technician. “Through mutual encouragement and coaching, members are empowered to achieve their individual goals, whether they are new to the sport or seasoned athletes seeking to set new personal records and excel in competition.”

The team currently has 35 members and hopes to continue growing. In addition to helping members increase their powerlifting skills, the Bar Benders also aim to help teammates align with the Department of the Air Force’s Culture of Fitness.

“The team directly supports the Air Force’s commitment to fitness as a core pillar of readiness,” said Norwood. “By providing a structured and motivational environment, the Bar Benders help members exceed Air Force fitness standards, enhancing their physical and mental resilience to be their best selves.”
