Safety Smarts Essay Contest -Starts 1 December 2006

Tell us how you choose to be safe in your life, and you can win an Armed Forces Vacation Club certificate (adults) or teens can win an iPod! The three winners will also work with AFN to broadcast safety messages throughout USAFE.

RULES:

Program name: BE SMART...BE SAFE

Dates of program: 1 Dec 06-26 Jan 07

· Categories:

---Teen Category: Ages 14 -18

---Young Adult: Ages 19 - 30

---Adult Category Two: Age 31+

· One essay per eligible person

· Eligibility: Contest is open to DoD I.D. card holders assigned or attached to USAFE units or USAFE bases.

· Essay must address safety awareness including safety issues for families living in Europe. Tell us what choices you make to be safe in your life!

· Essay must include two sources from your base or branch library

· The essay must be single-spaced with double spacing between paragraphs and must not be more than 500-600 words excluding the heading (title)

· Cover sheet with the following information needs to accompany essay submissions
· Participant's name, date, word count, DSN and commercial phone number

· Essays will be evaluated on: "How well is the essay theme described and/or reinforced", and "How well does the essay presentation portray originality and thought process.

· Deadline for submission to your library is 26 January 2007.

· Winners will be announced in the March 2007 Air Scoop magazine

Prizes:

The three winners of the 2006 contest will assist with public broadcasting messages via AFN.

Winners in both the adult categories will receive an Armed Forces Vacation Club certificate!

Winner in the Teen category will receive an iPod

Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00
Closed weekends, Local National holidays, and Training days

The Spangdahlem Library's new hours of operation will be:
Mon-Fri 10:00-19:00
Sat-Sun 10:00-16:00
Closed American holidays and Training days

Rosetta Stone a Hit!

The Rosetta Stone language learning program filled up within four weeks of our launch. Users have logged in hundreds of hours of use already, and love the program. We're still taking applications, but names will be placed on a waiting list until spaces open up. Summer Reading Program Closes Out in USAFE

Our wonderful Summer Reading Program, Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales has come to an end. Congratutations to all the kids and teens who participated and a big thank you to the staff and volunteers who worked so hard to bring the program to our customers. We're already hard at work on next year's program - Get a Clue @ Your Library.

In the meantime, don't forget to visit your library for books, DVDs, and other services and programs!
