Renovations on the outdated and undersized control center began in November 2006. "Security forces technologies such as alarm systems, camera and surveillance systems, are drastically improving and our control center was not equipped or capable of being equipped in its former state," said Senior Master Sgt. Ricky Melton, 435th Security Forces Squadron. Total cost for the renovation was approximately $2,523,000. During renovation, the LE desk, alternate control center and Law Enforcement Substation for customer service were temporarily located in three separate buildings. "The KMC will benefit from the improvements, because SF operations, installation security and police services are now co-located in one facility," said Maj. Dozier, 435th SFS commander. "Also, because of centralized incident reporting, this will reduce response time to any security forces activity." Improvements of the renovated building include: - improved customer service - consolidation of German Polizei and LED at a central location - one-stop customer service - vindicator alarm system, which is now located in an external communication room - three new interview rooms to ensure all aspects of law enforcement operations for Ramstein Air Base can be conducted - interview and patrolman area, which is no longer separate from control center area - renovation allows SF to establish a Learning Readiness Center in a 24/7 accessible area - new K-9 dog kennel - access to building for public is limited to main entrance - increased quality of life aspects - building meets force protection requirements - building is handicapped accessible - two new state of the art holding cells - entire building will be more functional for security forces mission
