Red Ribbon Week
A pledge to live a drug-free life
KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany -- Yvette Mendoza, 6, a Ramstein Elementary School first grader, hands out red ribbons Oct. 25 at the U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern's Red Ribbon Relay held at the track near the Vogelweh Commissary. More than 630 Soldiers, Airmen, civilians and their family members ran laps - more than double the number of people who participated last year. Close to 70 community members volunteered for the event, which supports Red Ribbon Week. This national observance encourages everyone in the community to take a visible stand against drugs, alcohol and tobacco. One of the traditions of this observance is wearing red badges of satin - red ribbons - as a pledge to lead drug-free lives. U.S. Army photo by Christine June.
