First ever KMC Half Marathon jumps off to success

Two hundred and forty three runners participated in the first ever Kaiserslautern Military Community Half Marathon Sept. 12 on Ramstein Air Base, as excitement and good weather filled the air.

Participants from Ramstein; Bamberg, Germany; Baumholder, Germany; and Stuttgart, Germany, began the marathon at 8 a.m., running 13.1 miles total.

Bill Rediske, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center podiatrist, came in first place for the men's category with 1:20:43. Cathryn Acklin, 693rd Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group Distributed Common Ground System operations noncommissioned officer in charge, came in first place for the women's category with 1:34:39.

Col. Ramona Dolson, 86th Mission Support Group commander, made the opening remarks, and Col. Donald Bacon, 3rd Air Force vice commander, presented the awards.
