In his first official enlisted calls on Feb. 27 and 28, the 86th Airlift Wing's newest command chief introduced himself and outlined his themes and concerns for the wing at Hangar 2 here.

Command Chief Master Sgt. James Morris, a native of Berwyn, Ill., previously served as command chief for the 19th Airlift Wing at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark. This is his second assignment to Ramstein Air Base.

"I'm a repeat offender," said Morris. "I was at Ramstein in 1993 as a shift supervisor for the 1964th Communications Group, which was later redesignated as the 86th Communications Group."

After the brief overview of his assignments, Morris went on to talk about his daily routine which includes time with his family.

"Family is something I cherish, I make it a point to be home for dinner with my wife and daughter," said Morris. "That's part of my life I will always make room for."

The chief also touched on his themes, things he finds important and wants to improve in all Airmen during his career.

"We're here to generate air power, it's why we exist," said the chief. "Every Airman must know his role in providing combat capabilities and it is up to them and the supervisors to be able to provide that insight."

The chief also challenged non-commissioned officers to become better, more technically expert leaders and to know their Air Force Instructions by reading them, not just by reference.

"We have a lot of amazing people in today's Air Force; we are leaner and more agile than we have ever been in the past," said Morris. "Build on that and take on those leadership positions when they become available and do it with a positive attitude, these are the things that make a model NCO for all Airmen to look up to."
