Members from the 603rd Air Operations Center and the 603rd Air and Space Communication Squadron gathered together for Sports Day at the South Side Fitness Center on Ramstein Air Base, Germany, Aug. 13, 2021.

The unit’s Sports Day was designed to encourage physical fitness, unit morale and family involvement.

“Sports are a good way to show camaraderie,” U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrea Delgado, 603rd AOC intel analyst, said. “We had the divisions play each other to bring Airmen together for a little bit of friendly competition.”

Airmen competed in a volleyball tournament, but could play frisbee, cornhole or tug of war if they did not want to compete. In addition, there was a bounce house and games for kids.

Delgado said fitness is important because it is linked to wellness and being healthy overall, but her favorite part of the event was everybody getting together and being involved.

“When we do these kinds of events, we want as many people to come out and participate as possible,” Delgado said. “We had a lot of people volunteer for it as well. It is always nice to see that people are willing to help everyone’s morale.”

The 603rd AOC also hosted a lunch for everyone by offering food truck and catered options.

“I think it has gone great,” said Airman Spencer Carty, 603rd ACOMS core systems technician. “It is really cool to see the entire squadron out here and coming together for sports and at the end of the day, having a few good burgers.”

Morale events like these help develop Airmen and care for families, and ultimately strengthen the 603rd AOC’s mission to plan, direct, and assess operation level command and control of integrated air, space, and cyber power to support both combatant commands across the operations systems.
