National POW/MIA Recognition Day was established in 1979 through a proclamation signed by former President Jimmy Carter. RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- U.S. Air Force Airmen commemorate National POW/MIA Recognition Day with a ceremony at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, Sept. 18, 2020. Airmen across base took turns carrying two POW/MIA flags around the base track for 24-hours to honor those who were held captive and returned, as well as those who remain missing.
