A state initiative called “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz” will be distributing welcome packages to service members and their families in Kottweiler-Schwanden June 7, 2018.

“The packages are designed to introduce Americans to the project and its helpful resources, such as our website and Facebook page in order to establish connections with Americans living here and to demonstrate that the local German communities are excited about their new members,” said Sarah Wagner, Atlantic Academy education manager.

The “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz” initiative is hosted by the Atlantic Academy in Kaiserslautern; their mission is to support local German communities in welcoming Americans and to make information easily accessible online for service members moving to the area. Collectively, Atlantic Academy supports events that strengthen the transatlantic relationship on a community level.

“This welcome package is a fun tote filled with goodies such as a German-American themed mug, a parking disk, stickers and - most importantly - information material about the state Rheinland-Pfalz and the local community regarding helpful tips and local events,” said Wagner.

Service members have a chance to meet Gabriele Schütz, mayor of Kottweiler-Schwanden as well as a representative from the "Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz" project during this event and can ask questions they have about the state.

“It is a great sign that the Mayor participates in this because it highlights how important a great relationship between the American and German community is to local officials,” said Wagner. “We are very grateful to have that support!”

Interested families residing in Kottweiler-Schwanden can send an email to constance@atlantische-akademie.de until June 6, 2018 or send a message on Facebook through the “Welcome to Rheinland-Pfalz” page.
