RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- Airmen assigned to the 700th Contracting Squadron are keeping busy as they close out the 2017 fiscal year.
The 700th CONS supports units assigned to Ramstein Air Base, Kapaun Air Station, Vogelweh Military Complex, and parts of Spangdahlem Air Base by handling units’ purchasing needs.
“We’re pretty much in the business of acquisitions,” said Airman Marcus Hicks, 700th CONS contracting apprentice. “During this time of year, we have a lot of purchase requests for the things these units need or will need in the future.”
With the current budget, most units allot funding for things they need within the fiscal year; however, funds not used are recycled and do not return to the units.
“When any unit needs to acquire anything, they have to route it through us,” said Airman 1st Class Joseph Floyd, 700th CONS contract administrator. “They basically tell us what they need and why, and we find the most cost-efficient way to get it to them.”
Through the hard work and diligence of the Airmen assigned to the 700th CONS, mission readiness and success is maintained while work flow increases toward the end of the fiscal year.
“One of the big things we’ve been doing lately is overtime,” said Hicks. “The mission is always top priority so if we have to stay late, we have to stay late. There are a lot of people putting in a lot of hard work to make sure we have all the information we need.”
Whether it’s handling a multi-million dollar contract or pricing for office supplies, the 700th CONS ensure the neat and tidy wrap-up of 2017’s fiscal year.
