1/9/2008 - RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- As 2007 draws to a close, the 435th Munitions Squadron celebrates two recent and noteworthy milestones; one highlights teamwork with agencies outside the unit and the other highlights wingmanship within the unit.

Dec. 14, the 435th MUNS held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the newly completed Munitions Maintenance Facility. This year long project was completed via a joint effort between U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, German contracting company Landesbetrieb-Liegenschaftsbaubetreuung, and munitions squadron facilities manager, Staff Sgt. Danielle Virgil.

The $2.5 million maintenance facility provides the munitions squadron with a state-of-the-art maintenance center to help ensure the readiness of strategic weaponry and guidance systems.

Guest speaker and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering and Construction Chief, Terry Bautista, commented on the demonstrated teamwork that was essential in completing this project, "The delivery of this facility illustrates definitively how monumental things can be accomplished when a relationship between partners is based on trust, dedication to common goals, and an understanding of expectations and requirements."

While ensuring the serviceability and readiness of the munitions stockpile on the job, the munitions squadron is embracing a Culture of Responsible Choices during their free time. As of Dec. 14, the 435th MUNS has gone 365 consecutive days without a DUI.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Col. Earl Matthews, 435th Air Base Wing commander commended the munitions squadron on going a complete year without a DUI.

"The munitions squadron demonstrates themselves as models of the Airmen's Creed," Colonel Matthews said. "Going a full year without a DUI shows they are dependable wingmen and they are leaders in building a community of responsible choices."
