Ramstein, Spangdahlem Airmen remember the Wereth 11

Eleven Airmen from the 86th Civil Engineer Squadron and 86th Logistics Readiness Squadron, stand in line to represent the Wereth 11, during a ceremony in Wereth, Belgium, March 24, 2017. Each Airmen reported “not present” as each of the Soldier’s names were read off in ceremonial fashion. The ceremony was held to recognize 11 African American soldiers, now known as the Wereth 11, who were tortured and executed by the Nazi SS Dec. 17, 1944 in the small village of Wereth.
