Welcome To Ramstein!

Lt. Col. Vernon Lucas, 721st Aerial Port Squadron commander, shows a group of visitors the "Berlin Airlift Memorial Window" on display at the Ramstein Passenger Terminal at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, March 9, 2010. Among the visitors was Gerd Unger, Departmental Director for Infrastructure, Environment, and Economics, Georg Stuke, President of the Defense Area Administration West, who visited various areas of the base as part of a status update on the Rhein-Main Transition Project as well as discussion on noise abatement issues. The window was originally displayed in the Rhein-Main Air Base chapel before its closure, at which time it was relocated to the new "Gateway to Europe" at Ramstein. The 8-foot-diameter window, made of 1,500 individual hand-cut pieces of glass, was donated to the chapel in 1950 by the Rhein-Main Airmen's Club. The memorial honors the U.S. servicemembers who lost their lives during the Berlin Airlift. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Brittany Perry)
