Many of us find ourselves lost in the glorious idea of a vacation or a weekend off, but when that time actually rolls around we have no idea what to do or where to go.

Some may in fact leave the country yet you might be surprised by the amount of people that stay behind with "nothing" to do. Naturally many end up on base: shopping at the KMCC or catching the latest newbie in the theatres. Either way the majority of the people are to be found on base. Let us be honest here, I know, that you know that you have the opportunity of a lifetime, so do not just sit there and let it pass you by.

All it takes is a quick walk to Ramstein-Miesenbach's "INFO-Center" in the Museum im Westrich, Miesenbacher Strasse 1. Opening times are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday; phone number is 06371-838186. You cannot and will not leave without a handful of brochures to take home and plans bubbling in your head. Any type of person will find something to suit their interest: for the bikers there is a new, modified bike map that outlines the bike trails from any village of your choice. Even those nature hikers can pick up a booklet of different hike paths to places such as the middle point of the Pfalz with the history, length and marking points included. For those seeking more of a German culture activity, grab "Die Pfalz feiert" and you will be given the dates and the places of flower garden exhibitions to the famous Bad Dürkheim wine fest.

These are just a few that I have named for you, but trust me there are many more activities and pamphlets that need to be picked up by you. Like I previously stated, do not let these opportunities pass you by, take matters into your own hands and have some good ole traditional family fun, instead of seeing that new movie in the theatres (it will have another showing and you can leave that for a rainy day).

Do not have second thoughts, just think of that old saying your parents used to tell you, yeah that one that sounded foreign: carpe diem. Go out and seize the day and enjoy yourself in Germany's finest natural and cultural events.
