RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- One year ago, I had the distinct honor of becoming your 435th Air Ground Operations Wing commander.
Since taking command of the FOLLOW ME Wing, I’ve had the opportunity to visit many of you, and it has been the highlight of my time here.
If you asked me last June if I thought we would be busy, I would’ve resoundingly said, “yes,” but none of us could have predicted just how integral to the mission we would be as we demonstrated numerous times how we are “First to the Fight!”
My priority was heavily focused on defining the wing’s operational identity and securing its future foundation. We rolled out our new Mission, Vision, and Priorities, as well as the 435 AGOW Operations Order.
Our senior leaders demanded a clear understanding of “Aggregate Readiness,” which was key because the 435 AGOW plays an important role in delivering just that. While we worked on these initiatives, we endured a government shutdown. Despite these challenges, the wing maintained its operational tempo and continued to deliver airpower at minute one.
The 435 AGOW demonstrated its capabilities through exercises HEAVY RAIN, AGILE BISON, and SABER JUNCTION. It was a great honor to consistently witness the professionalism you exhibited while executing such complex scenarios.
As 2026 started, we focused heavily on real-world contingencies. Senior leaders across the theater characterized the 435 AGOW as “The Grease” that keeps Joint Force operations running smoothly, acknowledging the wing’s unique ability to set the theater and connect the fight for follow-on forces.
As the anniversary of taking command passes, we’ve continued to secure resources while navigating a dynamic transition period with the departure of our deputy commander, command chief, two group commanders, and 10 squadron commanders. I recognize this places the heavy burden to maintain continuity on our Airmen. However, this transition is only temporary, and when our new leaders are in their seats, they will be ready to follow you because of your excellence.
To every 435 AGOW Airman: THANK YOU! Every day you bring your best to ensure we remain the best. I don’t take lightly the fact that this comes at a great cost. I extend my sincerest thanks to your families, who also sacrifice because of your service.
With our current operations tempo, I know how difficult it can be to take some time for yourselves and your families, but please make this a priority. Especially as we move through the summer, I hope you find time to enjoy yourselves and relax with loved ones. Also, take the time to look out for those around you.
I am excited to welcome all our new teammates, including our incoming command chief, Chief Master Sgt. Chris Hucks. I cannot wait for us to hit the road; we look forward to meeting you all, learning about your jobs, and discovering how we can better take care of you.
Thank you for your service and for being part of the 435 AGOW Family!
FIRST TO THE FIGHT!
