The United States Armed Forces in Europe Band performed for over 600 guests during the Kaiserslautern Military Community Christmas Concert on Dec. 14, 2018 in the Fruchthalle concert hall, Kaiserslautern, Germany.

The KMC Christmas Concert was established more than 30 years ago as a “Thank You” to the host nation population.

U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark R. August, 86th Airlift Wing commander, hosted this year’s KMC Christmas Concert by receiving German and American distinguished visitors during a social hour before the concert. August also provided the evening’s opening remarks.

“Tonight we honor our partnership and friendship through the celebration of the season through music,” said August. “No matter your background… German, American, anywhere in the world… music is a common bond, and a universal language that spans across all cultures.”

Sitting with U.S. representatives from Ramstein, German distinguished visitors consisted of County Commissioners, Union Community Mayors, and representatives from local and state parliaments.

Roberto da Costa, 86th AW Host Nation Office chief, believes the Christmas concert couldn’t have gone better.

“The Christmas concert was a huge success, as every year,” said da Costa. “It gets the audience in a Christmas mood and also shows how talented the Airmen are. It demonstrates the importance of community relations.”

Upon finishing their final piece of the night the USAFE Band received a wide round of applause and standing ovation. August once more took to the stage to provide closing remarks.

“This tradition is a symbol of our friendship and partnership, and we look forward to this celebration every year,” said August. “Thank you to the USAFE Band, thank you to our German hosts and to all for coming here tonight.”
