Sept. 11, 2017 marks the 16th anniversary of the largest terrorist attack on American soil where approximately 3,000 innocent lives were lost.

On Sept. 11, 2001, members of the Islamic militant organization, Al Qaeda, hijacked and flew a passenger aircraft into the Pentagon, in Washington D.C., two aircraft into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, in New York City, New York, and crash landed a fourth aircraft into a field near Shanksville, Penn.

Shortly after the events on Sept. 11, 2001, today’s ongoing global war on terrorism began.

With the anniversary around corner, members of the 86th Security Forces Squadron (SFS) Antiterrorism Force Protection (ATFP), are encouraging members of the Ramstein community to stay vigilant, on and off base.

“Report any type of suspicious activity you see,” said Master Sgt. Daniel Camacho, 86th SFS ATFP manager. “One incident might not seem like something, but it could link to other types of activity around the area. It could complete a puzzle of what is going on. Even if it seems miniscule, report it.”

The ATFP office is made up of specialized defenders trained to prevent and detect terrorist attacks geared toward Department of Defense personnel and their families.

“Our job is not to just educate people, but to make them aware of suspicious activity,” said Tech. Sgt. Jason Camacho, 86th SFS ATFP noncommissioned officer in charge. “We always have to be on our toes.”
