Happy 75th Birthday, 86th Airlift Wing
86th Fighter Wing F-47D aircraft sit on a runway at the 526th Fighter Squadron, Neubiberg Air Base, Germany, in 1949. The 86th Fighter Wing was activated on July 1, 1948, in Neubiberg, Germany, which is located about 9 kilometers south of Munich. The wing was established as an air defense mission in post-war Germany against a rising Soviet Union communism threat to the west.
