Two C-130J Super Hercules, belonging to the 37th Airlift Squadron on Ramstein Air Base, fly over Pointe-du-Hoc as part of a four-ship formation with a C-17 Globemaster III trailing a mile behind the formation in Normandy, France, June 5, 2019. Pointe-du-Hoc, coastal land featuring a 100 foot cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, provided the highest vantage point between the American landing sectors at Utah and Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. The German army heavily fortified Pointe-du-Hoc as a result. Axis defenses notwithstanding, the U.S. Army Ranger Assault Group scaled the 100 foot cliff and soon after captured Pointe-du-Hoc.
