Benner says he takes nothing for granted anymore, after surviving a rare medical condition that left him in the hospital for months. Aggregatibacter aphrophilus, a common bacteria residing in the mouth, caused his blood to become septic and resulted in the growth of a baseball-sized abscess in his liver.
