Background: A Retiree Activities Office is established at all major U.S. Air Force installations around the world. In the AF, all offices are staffed by volunteers. Our challenge has been and still continues to be finding and sustaining a staff of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to avail themselves of their knowledge to serve the community.
Current Operations: The RAO here at Ramstein exists to support, unite and enhance the military retired, active duty and DoD civilian retiree communities through positive volunteerism. All military retirees, regardless of service affiliation, DoD civilians, surviving spouses of retired and active duty personnel and all service members preparing to retire can ask and will receive assistance and guidance from the RAO. For those readying to retire from the service and desiring to stay in Germany, we provide a “Retire in Germany” briefing. The RAO and associated programs run by the RAO have the fullest support of the 86th Airlift Wing Commander.
We feel that it is our duty to serve you and provide our community with a platform (if you will) where one can check in and obtain factual information, discuss a problem, and find out about services available in the community. We also pass along vital information from various agencies about all kinds of family benefits available to you as a retired member or surviving spouse. If you present a problem or issue to us that we do not have the answer to, we will research it and get back to you and or we will refer the problem to the proper staff agency for action/ clarification and resolution.
The RAO is currently staffed by the Director; Lou de Andrade, (retired SMSgt), and 5-dedicated volunteers: Jim Barrante (retired CMSgt), Bob Belt (retired Army SSG), Ute Harris (retired SGM), Mike Poli (MSG retired), Mike Richter (retired Army SGM) and Albert Flores (retired DoD civilian).
Our Location: Ramstein Air Base, Building 2120, Room 124. We are located across from the Bowling Alley and in the same building as the Airman Family Readiness Center. Handicapped Parking is available (one spot in front of Building and others directly across the street in the main parking lot).
Open Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 – 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00 (Closed for Lunch)
