Chief Master Sergeant LOUIS J. LUDWIG

Chief Master Sergeant Louis J. Ludwig is the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 86th Airlift Wing, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. The wing has 8,500 active and civilian Airmen and joint partners and is composed of seven groups and 30 squadrons across four bases in Germany, Spain, Belgium and Portugal. As the installation host, the 86th Airlift Wing supports the headquarters for U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa, Third Air Force, two tenant wings, and more than 120 mission partners to include the integration and caring for the greater Kaiserslautern Military Community and its 56,000 U.S. service members and their families. The wing's mission is to generate and employ air mobility; to operate and enable air, space and cyberspace power projection platforms; and to forge ready and resilient leaders. The 86th Airlift Wing conducts USAFE's only airlift, airdrop and aeromedical evacuation flying operations, as well as provides rapid mobility and expeditionary combat support for military operations. Chief Ludwig is the senior enlisted advisor to the Commander on all aspects of readiness, training, mission effectiveness, resilience, discipline, and development of the force.


Chief Ludwig grew up in Warminster, Pennsylvania and Zephyrhills, Florida and entered the United States Air Force in March 1996. His background includes serving as an Instructor and Evaluator Aircraft Loadmaster with various leadership positions within the operations community in garrison and combat, including MAJCOM A3 Staff, Group Senior Enlisted Leader, and multiple Squadron Senior Enlisted Leader positions. Chief Ludwig also has extensive deployment experience in support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, JOINT GUARDIAN, JOINT FORGE, IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, SPARTAN SHIELD and INHERENT RESOLVE. Prior to his current position, Chief Ludwig was the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, Ali Al Salem AB, Kuwait.
