Leadership of the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center was officially passed to its newest commander, Maj. Gen. John R. Gordy II, here Aug. 9.

General Gordy’s nearly 30-year career includes operational and staff assignments at the squadron, wing, major command, combatant command and joint staff levels. He has commanded at both the wing and squadron levels and has served as Vice Commander at both the wing and Numbered Air Force level.

“General Gordy has been a teacher and a mentor throughout his entire career,” said Air Mobility Command commander Gen. Carlton D. Everhart II, who presided over the ceremony. “I have full confidence he will take care of our greatest resource, the Airmen who keep us safe every day.”

During the ceremony, Gordy told the nearly 14,000 Airmen of the Expeditionary Center a unified commitment to the Expeditionary Center’s vital mission would be more important than ever as the world continues to change.

“Our mission will not get any easier, and our threats are not going away,” Gordy said. “Together, we will be ready to respond, build partnerships, accelerate aircraft through the global en route system and train and educate world-class Airmen.”

Gordy’s extensive operational experience will further the Expeditionary Center’s strategy to operationalize and be more responsive to the Nation’s partners around the world as global events change rapidly.

“Together, we will continue to provide unmatched airpower from the ground up,” Gordy said.

The Expeditionary Center, located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, is the Air Force’s center of excellence for advanced mobility and combat support training and education.
