Just visiting some old friends

Retired Chief Master Sgt. John Wright describes the extensive repairs he made to C-130 tail number 0527, nearly three decades ago, to Senior Airmen Timothy Mills and Jake Williams, Oct. 27 2008 on the Ramstein Air Base flight line. Chief Wright spent nearly nine months working on the aircraft after it left the runway in a landing mishap in 1980. The aircraft, now maintained by Airmen Mills and Williams, is still active today thanks to those repairs. This is the chief's first visit to Germany since he retired from active duty in 1991. Chief Master Sgt. Steve McDonald, 86th Airlift Wing command chief, checks his progress as he ascends the communications tower in Bann, a small town near Ramstein Air Base. Chief McDonald, with 86th Airlift Wing commander Brig Gen Bill Bender, and 86th Air and Space Communications Group commander Col James Foley, spent the day at the tower with the 1st Communications Maintenance Squadron's Cable & Antenna Theater Maintenance Team on 28 Oct. The team, which is the largest antenna maintenance work center in USAFE, is responsible for nearly 600 antenna systems across Europe as well as training and certifying all tower climbers in USAFE.
