8/6/2012 - RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- An Airman assigned to Ramstein died in his private quarters in the Community of Otterberg following a fire which broke out in the kitchen, expanded to the entire apartment and set the roof ablaze early August 5.

The Airman has been identified as A1C Robert J. Hernandez from El Paso, Texas. The 26-year-old Airman was assigned to the 86th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

"The 86th Airlift Wing lost a valued member of our Air Force family, and we are deeply saddened. A1C Hernandez will be missed by his unit and all who had the opportunity to serve with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends," said Brig. Gen. Charles K. Hyde, 86th Airlift Wing commander.

The incident is under investigation.
