Controlled detonation in Kaiserslautern
During construction work downtown, an unexploded World War II bomb was found. A German explosive ordinance device team will defuse the unexploded ordnance on May 17 at noon. German officials will evacuate every one that lives within the cordon shown here on May 17 starting at 9 a.m. Please have every one that lives in the cordon out of their quarters by 10 a.m. Tenants can go back to their quarters when the road blocks are gone.

Power outage in KL-East
On May 19, 2012, there will be a scheduled two-hour power outage, starting between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. that will affect Kaiserslautern-East, both on and off base. 

Starting May 16, 2012, lithium batteries cannot be sent as mail for transport on commercial-passenger aircraft to or from international locations, including APOs, FPOs and DPOs. This USPS prohibition includes lithium batteries mailed separately, with devices, or installed in electronic equipment. Customers may mail electronic devices with the lithium batteries removed.

The list of common electronic devices containing lithium cells or batteries includes but is not limited to:

Video cameras, walkie talkies, GPS devices, radio controlled toys, cameras, scanners, cell phones, MP3 players, bluetooth headsets, smartphones, laptops, shavers, power drills, tablets, portable DVD players and measuring equipment.

***REMINDER -- West Gate Construction begins May 14 
As part of a continuing improvement to base security, construction work will start at the West Gate on May 14. Steps have been taken to minimize travel delays during peak travel hours. During morning commute hours, 6:30 - 8:30 a.m. weekdays; the West LVIS gate and two lanes at the West Gate will open for incoming traffic. The Security Forces' access control point for the West LVIS gate will be set up just prior to entering the traffic circle from the 435th Construction Training Squadron direction. During afternoon commute hours, 2 - 6 p.m. weekdays; two outbound lanes at the West Gate will be available to exit the installation. At all other times, the West Gate will have two inbound and one outbound lane open for traffic. All traffic construction is slated to be completed byJuly 21.

***UPDATE -- SFS Housing Residence Training
The 86th Security Forces Squadron and the 569th US Forces Police Squadron are hosting a meeting for housing residents in the Hercules Theater on May 29, 30 and 31 from 1700-1900 for Ramstein residents and May 29, 30 and 31 in Bldg 2787, School Liaison Office on Vogelweh for Vogelweh/Landstuhl residents.

The training is designed to assist KMC housing residents help Security Forces to keep our children and neighborhoods safe. Discussions will include reporting procedures, information gathering, establishing programs and training to assist our housing residents to develop, monitor and assist in securing our base population and our greatest resource...our children. Please come out and learn how you can assist your local community and local Law Enforcement with ensuring the safety of our children.

Incidents involving threats to our children have been reported within the KMC. The safety of our children is a priority to all members of the KMC and we are aggressively working to resolve these threats and are using all of our available resources to track down those responsible.

Ramstein Curfew
Per Ramstein Air Base Instruction 51-901, Civilian and Family Member Misconduct dated 13 April 2010, Figure A8.1, the curfew on the installation is from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. "From 2300 - 0600, minors are not to be out of quarters unless accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult who has been entrusted with their care."
