Leaders from across Ramstein Air Base, Germany, broke ground to begin installation of the Gateway to Europe monument at RAB, Aug. 15, 2022.

The Gateway to Europe monument will be located at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center traffic circle behind the Base Exchange and will honor Ramstein’s heritage and partnerships with host nation, allied and partner nations. This project was made possible by the Commander in Chief’s Installation Excellence award, which granted the base funds for base improvement projects.

“It’s been a hard and tough year,” said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Otis C. Jones. “It’s important that we acknowledge the tremendous work that has been done. The Gateway to Europe represents not only the tri-wing and Global Gateway missions, but also all of the outstanding, collective work that goes into executing those missions. I want to say thank you to our Team Ramstein mission partners, all of the Airmen, Guardians, civilians and our local national team that did the work and allowed us to make this project a reality.”
